CAN I GO HOME THE SAME DAY?

Yes. A hair transplant at the Novohair is an outpatient procedure. You can go home the same day or choose to fly the next day. Most patients arrive the day before to be ready for the early treatment at the clinic. Some choose to have a little holiday in Berlin with friends or family a few days before the treatment. The hotel is a 4-star and located 150 meters from the clinic.

WHAT IS IMPORTANT BEFORE A HAIR TRANSPLANT?

Before your hair transplant your hair must be trimmed. Especially in the back where we take the follicles from. In some cases, we can avoid shaving the recipient area. If you have special requests please talk mention this and we’ll see what we can do. You must be healthy, have normal blood pressure and must stop taking hair products approx. 2 weeks before your treatment.

WHAT IS IMPORTANT AFTER A HAIR TRANSPLANT?

After the hair transplant, simply follow the post-operative instructions that we provide. No hard training right away- you can start training easily after a week. You must spray your hair with a remedy we provide and you must wash according to our instructions, avoid smoking and drinking alcohol, dusty surroundings, sun, rain, etc.). You can go to work the day after and after approx. 10 days no one will be able to see that you have had a treatment done.
There are very, very rare side effects from a transplant, and it will usually be just a small infection that can be easily treated. Occasionally there will be a slight swelling which quickly subsides.

For the most part, it is men who suffer from hormonal hair loss. The hairs on the head react very sensitively to male sex hormones. The hairs on the back of the head are far more resistant to hormonal hair loss. Therefore, they are particularly suitable for a hair transplant. A look at your family (your father or your grandfather) often shows the family-related hair loss. Other causes of hair loss (autoimmune diseases, psychological conditions, etc.) are discussed during the medical consultation.
For women, hair loss are usually diffuse and spread all over the head and can be caused by pregnancies, menopause, thyroid disease, psyche, etc.

WHAT METHODS ARE USED FOR A HAIR TRANSPLANT?

At Novohair, we use the most modern form of treatment and modern medical equipment. We use the FUE method (follicular unit extraction) which is individual extraction of 1-5 related roots. This is what we call grafts.
At our state-of-the-art clinic on the prominent Kurfürstendamm in Berlin, we offer you FUE treatment, personal and individual counseling and follow-up . FUE gives a natural result without leaving any noticeable scars on the back of the head.
Depending on the extent of your hair loss, a minimum number of hairs or grafts to be transplanted are estimated. Using the Hamilton-Norwood scale, we can divide our patients into different stages and thus determine the time and cost in relation to a possible hair transplant.

WHAT HAPPENS BEFORE YOUR HAIR TRANSPLANT?

The basis of a successful FUE hair transplant is a detailed consultation or a telephone conversation as well as pictures. This is done by one of our specialists who informs you about the most important elements of your treatment. Afterwards, you will receive an individual cost estimate, where all costs for the operation are included.
In connection with FUE, it is necessary to shave the hair in the donor area (on the back of the head) and usually in the recipient area. If it’s the temples or a very bare scalp, we can sometimes avoid shaving. But it’s easier for you to keep it clean and for us to make the FUE if the hair is short. The conversation with your specialist will help you figure out how to best prepare for thetreatment.

• You are very welcome to bring your own music, reading material and films for your treatment.
• It can also be a good idea to bring a high baseball cap, so you can hide / protect your new hair.
• In addition, you can bring a high pillow or airbag that you can use when you go to sleep at night.
• Also bring a shirt so you don’t have to pull a t-shirt over your head after the treatment.
• An umbrella is also a good idea in case it rains.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOUR FUE HAIR TRANSPLANT?

After your treatment, you are briefed at the clinic and review your post-treatment as well as your post-operative guidance. Then you can go home immediately. You can also choose to stay overnight at our 4-star hotel opposite the clinic and then fly / drive home the next day. You get a bandage on the back of your head which can be removed the next day. The sooner you wash the area and give it oxygen and air, the faster it heals. Sports activities should be avoided in the first week after treatment. Light training can be resumed after one week and you can train normally after 3 weeks.

Avoid smoking, sex, alcohol and dusty surroundings the first week after treatment. Direct sunlight and rain should be avoided with a corresponding headgear (loose cap). A FUE transplant takes time. The final result only comes approx. one year after your treatment. So you have to arm yourself with patience. If you wish, you are welcome to a half-year evaluation at our clinic.
Due to‘shock loss’(trauma to the scalp) it is completely normal that you lose the transplanted hair approx. one month after your treatment. But don't worry - they will grow back.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF A HAIR TRANSPLANT?

A hair transplant is a surgical procedure, so there may be similar risks. Initially, you will see a small crust formation on the small newly transplanted hairs and in the donor area. They dissolve quickly and are completely gone after approx. 10-12 days. You must use a spray applied to the recipient area for the first 3 days after your treatment. On the fourth day, you can gently dab and rinse with neutral baby shampoo and lukewarm water. If the donor area (back of your head) is a little red, you can apply a small amount of aloe vera. For the first 3-4 days after the operation, there may be a little swelling on the forehead. This is due to the anaesthetics we use. It goes away quickly and you can use an ice pack to soothe and reduce the swelling.
